  • Each year Haven House, a homeless shelter for families, has a variety of student volunteers from MSU.

  • A welcome letter from President Simon and Mayor Singh is sent each summer to new students moving into the community.

  • EL provides countless internship opportunities for MSU students, particularly with the EL Prime Time Senior program and the city’s Communication Department.

  • During the fall and spring, Listening Ear, a crisis intervention center, has a staff of approximately 70 to 80 people, 75 percent of whom are MSU students.

  • The EL city manager’s office hosts a Humphrey Fellow as part of a professional affiliation program.

  • EL’s Prime Time Senior program partners with the Center for Advanced Study of International Development and other MSU resources to participate in the International Lecture Series.

  • Ten MSU students volunteered at Progressive Therapy Solutions in East Lansing.

  • EL operates a regional dispatch center serving MSU and Meridian Township.

  • EL’s Parks and Recreation Department hires MSU students each year for part-time positions, such as a lifeguard, child-care aid, and youth action team assistant.

  • The CRC hires MSU students as interns to develop neighborhood relationships and host neighborhood activities.
