  • MSU revised its planning process to allow for greater community input on upcoming construction projects. MSU and EL planning staffs now have regular meetings and share information.

  • Twenty-nine MSU students volunteered at the East Lansing Abbott Road Animal Clinic during 2006–07.

  • MSU Broadcasting Services (WKAR-TV, WKAR Radio, WKAR.org) participates in such activities as “Ready to Learn,” “QuizBusters,” and “QB JR.,” which help to promote education in the area.

  • MSU and EL collaborated to develop and financially support the Community Relations Coalition (CRC), a not-for-profit organization with the mission of enhancing relationships between MSU students and members of the East Lansing community.

  • MSU pays ELPD overtime charges for expenses incurred by home football games.

  • YouVote, an MSU student organization, encourages MSU students to register to vote and to serve as precinct election inspectors.

  • MSU students and employees serve on East Lansing City Council advisory boards and commissions.

  • The University Student Commission, composed entirely of MSU students, serves as an advisory board to EL.

  • The MSU Department of Theatre holds six major Main Stage Productions, Summer Circle Theatre productions, free master classes, and student matinees that are open to the community each year.

  • The Celebrations Committee, developed in 2003 to proactively plan for event-related celebrations, has cochairs and neighborhood representatives from MSU and EL.
